Netflix’s Frankenstein has Mia Goth in an “almost unprecedented” character (Interview)

In an interview withADORCinema, Mia Goth talks about the importance of working with director Guillermo Del Toro on the new adaptation of Frankenstein, which premieres in theaters and on Netflix.

In 2025, Guillermo Del Toro took off one of the projects that, the director revealed, was a big dream of his life: and that is how, more than 200 years after appearing on the pages for the first time, Frankenstein gets a new adaptation for the screen. After a successful partnership with Netflix on Pinocchio, the director brings his own version of the classic creature to the cinema and streaming, now played by Jacob Elordi (Euphoria).

Among the changes he brought to bring his version of Frankenstein to life, the presence of the character Elizabeth is perhaps one of Del Toro’s main additions: if in the original book, Victor Frankenstein’s romantic interest (in the film, Oscar Isaac) barely appeared, the film fleshes out her plot with Mia Goth, star of the X – The Mark of Death trilogy. In an interview with I LoveCinemathe actress highlighted Elisabeth’s weight in this new version.

“It was Guillermo who really transformed her and made her a modern woman in this story, independent, free-thinking, intelligent and curious. She’s almost a completely new character,” says the actress. The description makes one think, of course, of the author of Frankenstein herself, Mary Shelley, who was just 18 years old when she wrote the novel, which was originally published in 1818. “I think there’s a lot of Mary Shelley in Elizabeth. And there’s a lot of Guillermo,” continues Mia.
