On Netflix. “A House of Dynamite”, the film that brilliantly awakens atomic anxiety

As if the times weren’t anxiety-inducing enough, director Kathryn Bigelow finds another reason to fuel our insomnia with A House of Dynamitea gripping new thriller where the specter of nuclear apocalypse looms.

You may be old enough to remember when atomic anxiety topped the list of humanity’s greatest concerns. Kathryn Bigelow, back after eight years of absence, reminds us that the warheads that worried us at the time (of the Cold War) have not miraculously disappeared since. And in the increasingly chaotic and unstable world in which we live, the threat they pose is more serious than ever.

From excitement to panic

Unimaginable? A House of Dynamite Yet forces us to look the threat in the face, and three times rather than once. The film replays, in fact, the same sequence three times. And each time borrows the perspective of different groups facing the same crisis: a nuclear missile of unknown origin, launched somewhere in the Pacific, is heading towards the American Midwest, probably towards Chicago. The United States has about eighteen minutes to intercept it, otherwise some 10 million people will die.
