‘One battle after another’ is what we need at this time in history
Few experiences in the movie theater this year compare to watching One battle after another. It’s a full movie: engaging, captivating, fun, current and emotional. It took more than a decade to the filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson Write the script of the feature, and the whim is evident.
The film emerges as a great journey of the contemporary hero unpretentiously, without having to strive to be considered as such (but of course there was much effort behind).
At first glance, it is Leonardo DiCaprio which, at the height of its performatic reach, plays the role of this main figure, but we realize then that it does not match exactly with the heroic ideal. Bob Ferguson, an former American revolutionary, is a clumsy guy who retired from the guerrillas after being persecuted and forced to flee with his daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti).
This persecution, by the hands of an authoritarian right -wing government, resulted in the kidnapping of his wife, perfids Beverly Hills (a magnetic Teyana Taylor), who fled and was never found again.
After 16 years hidden, father and daughter are surprised by the return of an enemy, Steven J. Lockjaw (interpreted with an grandhway by Sean Penn), and new threats of death. Bob and Willa resort to former allies, as the excellent and fundamental Benicio del Toro In the skin of Sensei Sergio, to save themselves and do their best to meet again.
The trials of the trajectory put the father in trouble, highlighting a hilarious sequence about memory loss on guerrilla codes. Involved by a trail with increasing and dissonant piano (in tune with the false character), Bob’s clutters are more than a simple comic relief, they represent the love of the daughter and make it clear that she is the true heroin.
Willa goes through the great transformation of history, when she begins to become aware of herself, her context and, most importantly, the country around her.
Thus, the director and screenwriter dissects the political situation of the United States. No element is inserted for nothing, every detail has been very well thought out and executed – thanks to the great assembly.
Another beauty, the photograph puts the viewer in place of the characters, such as the sensational car chase scene.
With his feet on the ground, the realistic end makes the film realize as the message we need at this time in world history.
Undoubtedly, it will be one of the Oscar favorites next year.
