One of the best adventure movies in history has just arrived on Disney+. A blast of pure entertainment

Something increasingly common on platforms is that there are titles that do not explain very well what they do there, mainly because they belong to a production company that has its own streaming service. We have the latest example of this with the fact that it has just arrived on Disney+ one of the best adventure movies of all time: ‘The mummy’.

Released during the summer of 1999, this version of ‘The Mummy’ starring Brendan Fraser conquered the public with an unforgettable adventure that reduced the touches of terror typical of this creature – although there is something, be careful – to offer an action pastime more in line with Hollywood’s summer blockbusters. And what a great success that was.

First class fun

With a very inspired Stephen Sommers behind the cameras, ‘The Mummy’ is one of those films that makes you have a great time no matter how many times you’ve seen it. From its wonderful cast -Fraser has never been as charismatic as Rick O’Connell, but also be careful with his co-stars, where no one clashes in the slightest- to the great visual spectacle it proposes, everything moves in the same direction.

In its own way, ‘The Mummy’ is the best successor that Indiana Jones has ever had, also taking that obvious influence but never limiting itself to being a pale imitation of the saga led by Harrison Ford. In fact, I’m convinced that a new, belated adventure by Rick O’Connell would far surpass the disappointing box office result that ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Doom’ had a couple of years ago.

By the way, the first installment is the best of the trilogy by far, but Disney+ has also included in its catalog both the entertaining ‘The return of the mummywhich served to launch the film career of Dwayne Johnsonlike the very poor ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’.
