Pierce Brosnan lost patience with this 007 question: ‘I don’t want to answer’
Pierce Brosnan is one of the most iconic actors of the James Bond saga and, although years have passed since the end of his cycle as the most famous secret agent in cinema, his name continues to be inextricably linked to the franchise. Precisely this constant association, however, seems to have made him lose his patience recently, when he was asked a question that he found particularly annoying.
The 007 saga has been on the big screen for decades and has seen numerous interpreters alternate. After the conclusion of the Daniel Craig era with No Time to Die, media attention has shifted to the future of the character, but also to the former Bonds, who are often called to comment on any aspect related to the MI6 spy. Brosnan, who played James Bond from 1995 to 2002was recently interviewed by The Times and was asked what 007 would be doing over the Christmas period. A seemingly harmless question which, however, triggered a rather clear reaction.
“I don’t really want to answer that question, and I don’t intend to. Because I don’t care. Why should I waste time thinking about where James Bond will be at Christmas?”
A blunt answer, but also surprisingly sincere. After years of interviews, Brosnan continued to build a solid career away from 007, taking part in projects such as Black Adam and The Thursday Murder Club, available for streaming on Netflix. Yet, his Bond past continues to follow him everywhere, ct questions that often seem to repeat themselves endlessly.
It is not difficult to understand his frustration: Brosnan has not played James Bond for over twenty years and, despite this, he is still asked to imagine the character’s private life, even during the holidays with truly annoying and useless questions.
Meanwhile, attention remains focused on the future of the franchise: who will take up Craig’s legacy and what direction Denis Villeneuve will give to the next Bond 26 and whoever will be the new 007 will have to prepare not only for the action on the screen, but also for an infinite number of questions about the character, probably for the rest of his career. For now, all that remains is to wait for official news on the next film, while the entire James Bond saga prepares to debut on Netflix, ready to conquer a new generation of viewers.
