Predator vs. Nazis? New film in the franchise was almost set during World War II
This Thursday (6), Brazilian cinemas received the long-awaited premiere of “Predator: Wild Lands”, a new feature film from the classic science fiction franchise, starring Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi.
The film has been surrounded by high public and box office expectations, largely due to its unprecedented proposal within the saga: for the first time, the Predator takes on the central role, ceasing to be just the villain who hunts humans to gain his own story.
In the plot, a young Predator of the Yautja race travels to the most feared planet in the galaxy to hunt a deadly creature and prove his worth to the clan. During the mission, he meets the synthetic Thia, an unlikely ally who assists him in the dangerous search for his final adversary.
Although at first glance it seems intuitive and consolidated, the original idea for the premise was quite different – and even somewhat unusual. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, director Dan Trachtenberg revealed that he initially considered setting the narrative during World War II, but ended up abandoning this path as it did not reflect the tone and essence he wanted for the project:
“There was a growing question among fans: ‘Why does the Predator always get beaten?’ He’s supposed to be the greatest hunter in the galaxy and he always loses. So I tried to create a story that explored the possibility of him winning, but I didn’t want to just make a horror movie where the villain wins in the end. At first I thought, ‘Well, maybe it could be him against Nazis or something’. None of that really worked until I found the formula to create a story about a Predator in an insanely intense and brutal clan, which is trying to prove his worth,” shared the filmmaker.

Produced by 20th Century Studios, “Predator: Savage Lands” also features other talents in its cast, such as Reuben de Jong (‘Spartacus’), Michael Homick (‘Mortal Engines’) and newcomer Rohinal Nayaran.
In addition to directing, Trachtenberg reprises the partnership he had with Patrick Aison in “Predator: The Hunt” (2022), and signed the script for the new feature film – guarantee your tickets through our website or app.
