Quaest: 64% of RJ residents approve of the mega-operation; 27% disapprove

A Genial/Quaest survey released on Saturday night (1st) showed that 64% of the population of the state of Rio de Janeiro approves of the mega police operation carried out last Tuesday (28) in the Penha and Alemão complexes, against the criminal faction Comando Vermelho, which resulted in 121 deaths — four of them being police officers.

On the other hand, 27% of the population disapproves of the mega-operation. Still according to the survey, 6% neither approve nor disapprove; and 3% did not know or did not want to answer.

In total, Quaest interviewed 1,500 residents of the state of Rio de Janeiro in person and at home between October 30th and 31st. The survey has a reliability level of 95% and a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

The police action is also considered a success by 58% of the state’s residents, while 32% consider it a failure.

Segmentation

Geographically, the survey shows that residents of Baixada Fluminense (which includes part of the municipalities in the metropolitan region of the capital, such as Duque de Caxias and Nova Iguaçu) are those who most approve of the action, with 73% support, followed by residents of the capital, with 68% approval.

In terms of political positioning, residents of RJ who define themselves as “Lulistas” and “non-Lulista left” overwhelmingly disapprove of the operation (59% and 70%, respectively).

Among “Bolsonaristas” and the “non-Bolsonarista right” in the state, approval for the police operation prevails, with positive rates of 93% and 92%, respectively.

And people who define themselves as politically “independent” more approve (61%) than disapprove (24%) of police action.
