Several GM vehicles with 6.2 l V8 engine hit by a recall

General Motors announces a reminder aimed at its full -size V8 V8 SUVs and vans of 6.2 -liter V8. Everything follows a series of complaints, replacement of engines, collective actions and surveys, the most recent of which led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concerned very much 900,000 vehicles in the United States.

The number of units recalled amounts to around 597,000 on the American side and very exactly 49,848 in Canada. The models in question are the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL as well as Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV 2021 to 2024.

The manufacturer evokes manufacturing defects in the crankshaft and/or connecting rods – without specifying its nature – which can cause damage to the engine, a loss of propulsion or a failure.

The concessionaires will have to make an inspection and, if no defect is detected (Error code P0016), an oil and filter emptying will be made using an oil with a higher viscosity index, 0W-40 instead of 0W-20, we learn. This suggests a problem of lubricating the engine at high temperatures. The filling cap will be replaced at the same time to reflect the new oil.

The remedy for vehicles that fail the inspection is not yet indicated, but everything suggests that the engine will have to be replaced, which is likely to cost GM quite expensive given the extent of the recall.

The owners concerned will receive a reminder of the company. As for the units still in inventory among dealers, they must undergo the said inspection and the necessary work before they can be sold and delivered.
