Streaming tonight: One of the best science fiction films of all time – relentless, horrifying and beautiful! – Cinema News

You can watch Danny Boyle’s stylish sci-fi psychological thriller tonight: in spectacularly sunny scenes, the Oscar-winning director tells a macabre story about a serial killer!

In 2007, aside from television films that migrated to the big screen, such as Star Trek: Nemesis and the unfairly underrated Serenity, the science fiction genre was practically stagnant. But then came Danny Boyle with Sunshine, an incredibly good sci-fi psychological thriller that no one had really considered before. A serial killer is on the rampage in a spaceship – and the sun, horribly beautiful and radiant, is omnipresent in the background…

This is what Sunshine is all about – Alerta Solar

50 years in the future: the Sun is dying and the Earth is already suffering the effects of an eternal winter. The first attempt to reignite the solar engine with a huge nuclear explosion failed. The space shuttle Icarus I and its crew disappeared without a trace. Now, a second team, led by Kaneda (Hiroyuki Sanada), is on his way to seize this last chance for humanity to survive.

Just before reaching their destination, the crew receives a radio message from Icarus I. Now, the physicist Capa (Cillian Murphy) faces a difficult choice: he needs to decide whether to proceed with the plan or fly to Icarus I and thus double the mission’s chances of success…

A classic? Or just really good?

For me, Danny Boyle and his psychological thriller set in space definitely deserve classic status! Although the genius behind Deathstroke has consciously abandoned the frenetic, fast-paced style of his previous work, he has achieved the strongest output of his career to date, with spectacular and rarely seen space images, each of which can be considered a work of art.

The stunning sunset images never become mere gratifications, but despite their infinite beauty, they always contribute to the ominous atmosphere aboard Icarus II.

You can definitely hear their screams in space!

Sunshine is not only visually stunning – but also thrilling from the start. But as soon as the Icarus II docks with the apparently abandoned Icarus I, the intensity increases significantly and a new narrative layer is added: on board the second space shuttle, everything indicates that the crew aborted the mission for religious reasons. But anyone who thinks that Sunshine will follow the spiritual line of 2001 – A Space Odyssey is sadly mistaken…

Danny Boyle maintains his striking style of suspense consistently, using religious references not for metaphorical or philosophical purposes, but rather to torment his already tense audience with horror sequences paced with surgical precision. A frightening and well-constructed narrative that will take the viewer to the brink of madness – in a good way!
