Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games
• The film takes place 25 years before the original saga, during the 50th Hunger Games won by Haymitch Abernathy.
• The cast also includes Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemmons and Glenn Close.
Another quick trip to Panem. Almost a year before its release in theaters, Hunger Games: Sunrise over the Harvest is already one of the most anticipated films of 2026. For the success of the franchise adapted from the saga of Suzanne Collins… but also for its enormous casting. The poster has just filled out a little more with the announcement of the return of Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, aka Katniss and Peeta.
Our colleagues from Deadline confirmed this information that many fans of the saga still had difficulty believing: the two main actors of the first four parts of Hunger Games will be in the casting of the next one.
Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson played Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the films released between 2012 and 2015 and directed, for the last three, by Francis Lawrence. It is also this director to whom we also owe the recent adaptation of March or Diewho is once again behind the camera for this 6th film.
Hunger Games: Sunrise over the Harvest follows the 50th Hunger Games, those won by Haymitch Abernathy, long before he became Katniss and Peeta’s alcoholic mentor. For this second edition of the Atonement Games, which take place every 25 years, an additional rule is added: four candidates in total, two girls and two boys per District, are sent into the arena to fight to the death. Haymitch, usually a loner, will have to deal with new allies and a host of enemies.
The events taking place almost 25 years before the original saga, the return of Katniss and Peeta will take place in the manner of a flashforward, present at the end of the book published at the beginning of the year. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will therefore only be on screen in a short scene. And logically, Woody Harrelson, the original interpreter of Haymitch, should be too, even if his presence has not yet been confirmed.
Fans can rest assured, they will have more than enough to be satisfied with the rest of the main cast which includes Joseph Zada (Haymitch), Whitney Peak (Lenore), Mckenna Grace (Maysilee), but also Jesse Plemmons (Plutarch), Glenn Close (Drusilla), Billy Porter (Magno), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Beetee), Maya Hawke (Wiress), Lili Taylor (Mags), Kieran Culkin (Caesar Flickerman), Ralph Fiennes (Snow) and Elle Fanning (Effie). Hunger Games: Sunrise over the Harvest will be released in theaters on November 18, 2026.
