SUPERGIRL: a trailer that contrasts with SUPERMAN!
It is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of 2026. SUPERGIRL will fly away from its cousin Superman in an adventure planned for next summer on our screens. And the trailer shows its difference.
Change of atmosphere for the DCU
While the takeover of Warner Bros by Netflix is the hot topic of the moment, the studio continues to demonstrate its weapons of box office destruction for the year 2026 which is fast approaching. And among the blockbusters expected at the cinema, we are necessarily looking very interested towards the summer, and more particularly June 24, 2026. Date on which SUPERGIRL must make its S shine at least as strong as its cousin SUPERMAN (616 million dollars in revenue worldwide).
If James Gunn remains, obviously, the Ringmaster of this DCU which he oversees with Peter Safran, the camera has been entrusted to Craig Gillepsie, director recognized for ME, TONYA. The screenplay is by Ana Nogueira, for whom this is her first attempt at a feature film. Enough to promise a cinematic experience quite far from Gunn’s Superman. And the trailer just revealed seems to follow this roadmap.
Moreover, we were warned as soon as the teaser appeared overnight from Sunday to Monday on the networks. Far from the optimistic Clark Kent, Kara Zor-El, played on screen by Milly Alcock (HOUSE OF THE DRAGON), will be a much more disillusioned superheroine. We find this nonchalance specific to this version of the character, like his short scene in SUPERMAN.
SUPERGIRL : WOMAN OF TOMORROW
For the rest, the images presented seem to be quite faithful to the spirit of Tom King, he who wrote the comic SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW, the main source of inspiration for the feature film – for which it was the pre-production title. The scenario takes up the broad outlines with a spatial manhunt against a backdrop of revenge, in which we will see a Kara more melancholy and withdrawn than her cousin. She who, unlike him, must live with memories of Krypton and the loss of those close to her. Which explains his need to “celebrate” his birthday under the red sun, without his powers.
To accompany her, in addition to Krypto, her tumultuous dog, she will cross paths with Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley), a young girl ready to do anything to find Krem des Colines d’Ocre (Matthias Schoenaerts), the main villain of the film. The big difference between the film and its paper model is the addition of a survivor from the late Snyderverse, Jason Momoa. The former Aquaman changes roles and becomes the crazy alien mercenary Lobo, a character he has always loved. The trailer doesn’t tell us if he will be an ally or an adversary to Supergirl here, but in any case, we can count on him to cause trouble.
SUPERGIRL, June 24, 2026 in cinemas and with the trailer, we also reveal the first poster of Kara still breathing the joy of living.
