the best films of 2025 to (re)watch

This year again, cinema continues to bring the French together: between January and October, cinemas recorded nearly 122 million entries. France maintains its status as an exceptional country for cinema, with nearly ten new releases every week. As the end of the year approaches, let’s look back at the best films released this year to (re)discover!

Mickey 17Bong-Joon-Ho

6 years after the Palme d’Or for ParasiteBong Joon-Ho returns to science fiction in Mickey 17. Adapted from the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, the film tells the story of a man with a gift a little special : he can die and resurrect at will, making him the perfect technician for the dangerous missions he carries out aboard a spaceship.

With Mickey 17Bong Joon-Ho finds the themesdear to his heart: ecology, friendly monsters and above all, a fierce criticism of classes, already at work in Parasite. Here again, we follow a character at the very bottom of the social ladder, sent to the front without any scruples. However, these forgotten characters are those who have the strength, the ingenuity and the desire to change things. Mickey 17 rejoices also and above all thanks to his humor and the irresistible performance of Robert Pattinson in the lead role of (or!) Mickey.

Mickey 17 is the perfect film for a movie night with friends, as a couple or with family! But be careful, due to the subjects covered in the film, the film is not recommended for children under 10 years old.

SinnersRyan Coogler

The vampires are alive, and they dance among us. This is what the latest film from Ryan Coogler, the director of the franchises, is about Black Panther et Creed. Ryan Coogler reunites with Michael B. Jordan and offers him a dual role as twin brothers, returning to their native Mississippi in the 1930s. As they open a tavern in the middle of Prohibition and against a backdrop of racial tensions, unexpected guests come to disrupt the party.

With SinnersRyan Coogler intends to return to African-American populations all the heritage that was stolen from them, particularly music. The film is never as Magnificent that when it brings together genres, eras and nationalities within a large scene of dance and song… Until we mute the sound and allowing an unwanted guest to join the party.

Sinners is not recommended for children under 12: the film is suitable for teenagers and adults who would like to thrill during the end of the year!

ArcoUgo Welcome

This is the surprise of the year: Arcothe first animated feature film by French director Ugo Bienvenu, produced among others by Natalie Portman. Arcoit’s the story of a little boy who lives in the future, taking care of a farm perched in the middle of the sky. One evening, while he dream of flying like the rest of his family, he grabs his sister’s cape and accidentally returns to the past. There, he meets Iris, a young girl who will help him return to his family.

Designed as a tributeto the most beautiful animated films, such as those by Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, The Wind rises), Arco transports the viewer – parent and child – into a universe colorful and beautiful . And yet, in this wonderful universe, technology takes on a sad, gray and almost sick aspect. This is the whole point of a film which invites us to dream and design a better world. The film is dazzling, without counting on its three false villains, one real comic trio voiced by Louis Garrel, William Lebghil and Vincent Macaigne.

Parents, do not hesitate to share Arco to your children! It allows them to discover the world of French animation, a world that has nothing to envy of the great historical animation studios.

EvanouisZach Cregger

A namewas on everyone’s lips this summer, that ofEvanouis. The second film by American director Zach Cregger after Barbarianis based on a previously unpublished news item: one night, at 2:17 a.m., seventeen children got up, left their homes and disappear . The film follows parents, police and teachers as they try to solve this mystery.

The film made a real cardboardat the box office, in France and in the United States. And it’s for good reason: designed like a puzzle, Evanouis is about a city paralyzed by a paranoia that it cannot cure. In the second part, the film becomes more playful notably thanks to the arrival of its big villain, which has already become one of the most popular Halloween costumes.

Why not take advantage of the holidays to discover Evanouis ? Please note, children must be older, as the film is strongly not recommended for children under 12 years old.

One battle after anotherPaul Thomas Anderson

At 55, Paul Thomas Anderson has nothing left to prove: in twenty years, he has established himself as one of the most great authorscontemporary cinema. With its many masterpieces (Punch-Drunk Love, Inherent Vice…), there was only one genre left that “PTA” had never tried: the action movie. So, he chose to tell the story of a father, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and his daughter, both prey to a zealous soldier.

Almost 3 hours long, the film passes in a single breath, thanks to his impeccable rhythm. The action scenes follow one another – it’s almost literally one battle after another – culminating in a nighttime riot in the middle of a Mexican city. The film achieves a fascinating tour de force: telling how power and desire are two sides of the same coin. It is also the story of a passing of the torch of a father towards his daughter, so that it is indeed “one generation after another”.

Movie buff advice: Mektoub, My Love : Canto DueAbdellatif Kechiche

It was unexpected. 8 ans after the release of the first volume, the sequel to Mektoub, My Love finally comes to the cinema. After an eventful visit to Cannes in 2019 for the presentation of its “false” sequel InterludeTHE rushes were reassembled to conclude the story in a single film. Inspired by The Wound, the Real by François Begaudeau, Mektoub, My Love spent a summer in Sète in 1994. He notably filmed Amin, a Parisian screenwriter returning to his hometown.

After the long hours spent on the beach in the first volume, summer is coming to an end and things are getting a little more serious: dreams are shattered, and certain actions lead to their inevitable consequences. However, more than the twists and turns, what interests Kechiche are the characters taken in their soul and flesh. Shaïn Boumedine, Hafsia Herzi, Ophélie Bau, Salim Kechiouche, Jessica Pennington: their characters resonate an authentic and powerfully cinematic.
