The best Godzilla film finally reveals its sequel

This Monday is not a Monday like any other. In Japan, kaiju aficionados celebrate Godzilla Day. The gigantic monster is also entitled to its own festival, Godzilla Fest, during which the production company Toho lifted the veil on a project eagerly awaited by moviegoers. Following the commercial and critical success of the excellent Godzilla Minus One across the world, director Takashi Yamazaki is unsurprisingly working on a sequel, the title of which has just been revealed. We now know that the next film in the franchise will be named after Godzilla Minus Zero, a surname that already raises many questions.

A discreet announcement

In order to stay faithful to the artistic direction of the previous logo, TAkashi Yamazaki once again took care to draw the title of this sequel by hand. This visual is the heart of the teaser released during Godzilla Fest, which also refrains from revealing the slightest clue regarding the upcoming scenario. For now, fans will have to settle for a sentence confirming that Yamazaki will be responsible for writing, directing and special effects for the film. However, more information should soon be revealed, since the feature film will debut in theaters in 2026, with no further details regarding the exact release window.

A title that asks: should we expect a remake?

Godzilla Minus Zero maintains the mystery. According to several sources close to the production, filming began discreetly three months ago in order to be able to keep up the pace for a launch in 2026. But no details concerning the scenario have yet been shared, or even leaked. While the events of Godzilla Minus One precede those of the 1954 film, some already suggest that Minus Zero will therefore serve as a reinterpretation of the classic who launched the franchise. But in the absence of an official announcement, this is just speculation.

As a reminder, Godzilla Minus One was able to generate 113 million dollars in revenue at the worldwide box office on a budget of only 15 million. Other rumors therefore state that Godzilla Minus Zero will benefit from a significantly higher budget, to allow production on a larger scale and up to the director’s vision. The gigantic reptile will star on the big screen for two years in a row, with Godzilla Minus Zero in 2026, followed by the return of Legendary’s MonsterVerse with Godzilla x Kong: Supernova in 2027.
