The Brazilian title of the new Marvel film leaks

On the night of this Thursday (11), the long-awaited Brazilian title of Avengers 5 leaked through rating records (via Taverna Marvel).

Confirming what many already suspected, but many others feared: The film will be called Avengers: Destiny.

This author’s desire was for the production to maintain the original essence and be titled simply “Vingadores: Doomsday“, as we have been calling the project since its announcement at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024.

But unfortunately (or fortunately?), it is a common and necessary practice for these English terms to be translated to ensure better understanding for the general public in cinemas.

Avengers: Doomsday in Brazil is Avengers: Destiny

The leak occurred when attentive fans noticed that the trailer for Avengers 5 was officially classified by Brazilian bodies. In the technical record sheet, the name of the film appeared translated in a direct and dry way: Avengers: Destiny.

The choice of Disney Brasil opted for the most basic and obvious path. For months, fans have theorized various possibilities. Many were betting on “Avengers: Final Destination” (a more literal and impactful translation of Doomsday), “Avengers: Judgment Day” or even “Avengers: Apocalypse”.

However, the studio preferred to focus entirely on the figure of the main villain, connecting the title directly to the Doctor Doom by Robert Downey Jr.

This simplified decision may generate debate. On the one hand, “Destination” is a strong word that immediately refers to the antagonist. On the other hand, it loses some of the catastrophic weight that the word “Doomsday” loads in English.
