Early sixties. Marquis Lelio lives with his wife in a luxurious villa on an island he owns. It is often frequented by groups of friends and parties are organised. In one of these he meets Elena. Love at first sight immediately strikes between them. The passion is overwhelming. They get married and at first are very happy. Then suddenly it all ends. The game turns into obsession. All the elements to do are already there The eyes of others a murky melodrama that intersects with the forms of a thriller that recalls the elegant and decadent soul of François Ozon’s cinema.
Filippo Timi seems to have stepped out of a 19th century novel with Laurence Olivier’s physique. Jasmine Trinca in turn pierces the screen with every look, movement, gesture. It is not only a film of notable emotional and passionate intensity. Rather, it represents the most convinced step that defines the identity of De Sica’s gaze. It is partly the work of maturity, partly it is the sudden impulse towards the future of a filmmaker who (still) firmly believes in the beauty and hypnosis of cinema.
