The family revealed the cause of his death

The family of Diane Keaton issued a statement revealing the cause of his death. He thanked his fans for their messages of support and informed the magazine People that the actress died of pneumonia on Saturday.

“The Keaton family is very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” the statement said.

In statements to Peoplesuggested that his fans can make donations in his memory to a food bank, or an animal shelter. “She loved her animals and was a strong supporter of the homeless, so any donation in her memory to a local food bank or animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute,” they said.

Keaton died in Los Angeles on Saturday, aged 79. Paramedics came to her home and took her to a nearby hospital.

A friend had commented that the star’s health had “deteriorated very suddenly” in recent months, and that only his close family was aware, so he decided to “keep the situation private.”

“It was so unexpected, especially for someone with so much strength and spirit. In her last months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who decided to keep everything private. Even some lifelong friends did not know what was happening,” the same source said.

Since Saturday, her castmates from several films and friends have paid tribute to the Oscar-winning actress, who, in addition to starring in dozens of notable films, was known for her passion for architectural preservation and her love of animals.
