The famous animation that managed to break the millionaire record of ‘Frozen 2’
Did you know that for 5 years “Frozen 2” held a record? It turns out that the sequel to the 2013 animation starring sisters Elsa and Anna became Walt Disney Animation Studios’ second highest-grossing film in 2019.
The plot, which addresses the origin of Elsa’s ice powers and the purpose she must follow, earned US$1.45 billion (equivalent to RS7.79 billion, at current prices) at the box office around the world, second only to “Inside Out 2” (2024), from Pixar, which earned an incredible US$1.7 billion (R$9.13 billion) in cinemas across the planet.
But, what is the animated title that stole “Frozen 2”’s place on the highest-grossing podium from the animation studio that created Mickey Mouse?
Animals beat royalty
The film in question is “Zootopia 2”, released on November 27, 2025 in Brazilian cinemas. The narrative, which is also a sequel, continues the events presented in 2016 by following Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde together once again to investigate a new mysterious case that is plaguing the city that is the animal.
Still in theaters, the plot has already accumulated US$1.65 billion (R$9.13 billion), needing around US$50 million to surpass “Inside Out 2” (2024) and become Walt Disney Animation Studios’ highest grossing film.
“The incredible response to Zootopia 2 reflects both its global appeal and the remarkable work of our filmmakers and cast,” said Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment. “It’s a proud moment for Disney Animation and all of us at Disney, and it’s a great way to kick off the holiday season.”
It is worth remembering that occupying second place in the ranking was not the only feat achieved by “Zootopia 2” through global fundraising. In fact, the animation became the second highest-grossing film of 2025, behind only “Ne Zha 2”, a Chinese animation that surpassed US$2 billion (R$10.74 billion) on the big screen, and the 15th highest-grossing film in cinema history, according to data from Box Office Mojo (via Ingresso.com).
Other records are:
- The studio’s fifth film to gross more than US$1 billion;
- Fourth highest-grossing debut of all time, with a global total of approximately US$556 million (R$2.98 billion) during the long Thanksgiving holiday.

The dubbing cast includes names like Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Ke Huy Quan, Andy Samberg, Idris Elba e Shakirawhile in Brazil famous as Monica Iozzi, Rodrigo Lombardi, Danton Mello e Thaila Ayala are responsible for lending the voices to Judy Hopps, Nick Wild, Gary and Dr. Fuzzby, the main characters in the plot.
