Wave of ViolenceNetflix’s new action film, premiered on the platform this Friday (28) and quickly occupied the first position in the Top 10 streaming films.

The film places the audience inside an insane and unpredictable night: Pete Strykyr, played by Michael Jai White, is an elite assassin who decides to seek emotional balance and starts attending self-help meetings. But this is enough to arouse suspicion: his boss and the rest of the organization interpret his choice as a sign of disloyalty. Suddenly, Pete transforms from hired enforcer to target and is hunted by a gallery of professional killers.

The film captures you from the beginning with its simple and effective premise: a man accustomed to violence tries to change his life, and discovers that, often, there is no escape. From that point on, the plot unfolds like a frantic race for survival, with brutal clashes, twists and acid humor.

What to expect from Wave of Violence

The protagonist – who is actually an anti-hero – is played by White, whose physical presence and charisma give weight to the narrative. Even with criticism that he doesn’t move as lightly as before, many of the confrontations still come with interesting and efficient choreography.

For those who like raw and direct action, Wave of Violence features shootings, fights and chases, which are mixed with doses of humor and irony, in an 80s/90s action film atmosphere.

The duration of 1h29min makes the experience lean and effective: without excessive fluff or subplots, the focus remains on Pete and his unequal struggle to survive his own profession.

The supporting cast, with names like Aimee Stolte, Dawn Olivieri and Aleks Paunovic, helps to bring to life a violent underworld, full of morally dubious individuals, which adds layers to the plot and prevents it from being just bangers and noise.

For those who enjoy hybrid action films – with hints of dark humor, absurdities and stylized carnage – Wave of Violence It’s a worthwhile bet: it won’t innovate the genre, but it delivers what it promises with energy, irreverence and rhythm.

If you’re looking for something to watch over the next few nights and don’t mind blood, gunfire, and revenge, Wave of Violence should be at the top of the list.
