The last chapter of Luca Medici’s film career arrives on December 25, 2025 at the cinema after the overwhelming success of Tolo Tolowhich in 2020 had conquered the Italian public by grossing 48 million euros at the box office. But Buen Camino is also the film of returns: in fact the historic collaboration with Gennaro Nunziantea director who has supported Zalone since his debut on the big screen in 2009 with I fall from the cloudsbefore the authorial parenthesis which saw the comedian alone directing, writing and interpreting the penultimate title.
This new cinematic adventure is not only told through comedy and themes dear to the Apulian actor, but also thanks to a visual journey that crosses iconic and suggestive places: from the atmospheres of Sardinia to the capital Romaup to Spain’s most famous scenery. And it is precisely by following the paths of the Camino de Santiago that Zalone will go in search of his daughter and a different way of being a father.
The location in Italy
The first part of the film takes place in Sardinia, in a scenario that coincides perfectly with the character’s initial condition. Zalone, in fact, leads a comfortable and apparently perfect life among luxurious villas, swimming pools and yachts between the Costa Smeralda and the north of Gallura.
The filming is engaging Porto Cervo and the most famous stretches of the coast, while the areas of Saint Teresa of Gallura e Head Head they offer wider and more panoramic shots. It is from this golden paradise that Checco is torn away, when the disappearance of his daughter Cristal forces him to leave Sardinia and set out on the road.
Other scenes of the film were shot in Rome, where Checco Zalone’s daily life unfolds. The shots feature buildings and residential neighborhoods, as well as interiors where the offices where Checco manages the family business are set.
The locations of the film in Spain
The most anticipated part of Buen Camino takes place in Spain, along the Camino de Santiago, the true narrative and symbolic axis of the film. The journey is told through footage taken on real stages of the journey: the crew, in fact, followed recognizable sections of the Camino, working almost exclusively outdoors. The images focus on the most typical details of the pilgrim’s experience such as dirt paths, secondary roads, hostels, casual encounters and moments of fatigue, alternating with landscapes of great beauty that accompany the protagonists along the journey.
Those who already know the Camino de Santiago will be able to try to identify some classic stages, in particular the French tract and of the last days before arrival, set in the more rural and less touristy Galicia, among green hills, small villages and long stretches immersed in nature.
The journey ends symbolically and physically at Santiago de Compostelathe final destination of the pilgrimage and the emotional heart of the film. The final scenes were filmed right here, among the streets and squares of the historic center, immediately recognizable for the stone architecture, the paved streets and the famous Obradoiro Square.
