The mistake made in Bruce Springsteen’s film — and confirmed by himself at a concert

The singer’s preference for condiments in the feature film, in a scene shared with two fictional characters, was pointed out by fans as not being realistic

Every biopic takes certain poetic liberties. With Springsteen: Save Me From the Unknown is no different. However, a fan found a curious moment in the film that does not reflect reality.

During a scene in the film, Bruce Springsteen (Jeremy Allen White) says to the character’s daughter Faye Romano (Odessa Young) who likes mustard. The problem is: The Boss doesn’t like the condiment.

An account of X/Twitter pointed out the fact last Sunday (26). A day later, he corroborated this with a video of the singer speaking on stage, during a concert in the United States in 2015, about how much he doesn’t appreciate the show.

Springsteen said in the clip that he frequented a diner and his normal order was: a sandwich with cheese, ham, lettuce and lots of mayonnaise. No mustard, whether cheap or fancy.

“Don’t give me that Gray Poupon sh*t! I don’t like mustard at all! I don’t like it on my hot dog, I don’t like it on my sandwich. No.”

The story becomes even more curious because there is controversy as to whether or not the Bruce Springsteen “on screen” actually said he liked mustard. In text from Stereogum about the controversy, the journalist Tom Breihan highlights: in the scene, Faye Romano’s young daughter is the one who says she likes mustard, while Springsteen just agrees. In other words, the statement is ambiguous.

Created for the film

What has no room for discussion is the fact that neither Faye Romano nor her mustard-loving daughter are real. Both were created especially for the film. According to the production, the character played by Odessa Young represents several women with whom Springsteen had relationships during the 1980s.

The Australian actress revealed in interviews that she is a longtime fan of the singer because of her father. When she found out about the project, she asked her agent to get her a role at any cost, even as an extra.
