Em The Mountain Troll 2an even more dangerous and powerful troll awakens chaos in Norway. Faced with this new monster, a group of heroes must return to action to combat the threat. Facing the mission will not be easy and the three will need more help than they imagined, gathering new allies, new weapons and looking for answers in the country’s ancient history. Will the group be able to stop the monster’s attacks and overcome all the challenges required to get out of this mess alive?
O Mountain Troll 2 is a sequel to the 2022 Norwegian film about the mythical creature from national folklore and arrives with hits and misses in its new adventure. The most positive points of the most expensive film in Norwegian history are the CGI creatures and the action scenes. Both are well made and well filmed. The creatures still look like they came out of a Norwegian mythology storybook and are very realistic. The creature’s appearance remains a little cartoonish, but the destruction caused by it is quite real. The action scenes bring together several elements from films such as Godzilla, Jurassic Park e King Kong to excite the viewer and they work, being the best moments of the film.

As much as Roar Uthaug’s direction (The Wave) create exciting moments, the script by Espen Aukan (Baby Boom) does not expand the troll universe satisfactorily. The production mixes legend and science in a story empty of ideas. The human characters have the same function as always: they walk from one side to the other, in order to explain the rules and try to help the good creature. Again questions about Christianity and its relationship with Danish culture are mentioned, but never satisfactorily deepened. The impression is that the script didn’t know what to do with these elements and used them just for the sake of using them. Which is a shame, but it doesn’t get in the way of the fun.

The Mountain Troll 2 is a destruction film that should please fans of giant creatures and that’s all. When trying to be bigger than it could be, in order to build a franchise, the production ends up disappointing rather than pleasing. It remains to be seen whether the third adventure will correct these flaws or just rely on them.
Ps. The production has a post-credit scene, which hints at an imminent sequel.
