The Movie” is fun for children and adults

In partnership with

I confess that after my last experience with an “animated film”, I went to this cabin with slight trepidation. However, my dears, I had a pleasant surprise! Please forgive me, where did I leave my education?! How is everyone? Ready for another magical and fun conversation about cinema? So put on your kitty ears and come with me as we talk about “Gabby’s Magical House: The Movie” (DreamWorks/Universal Pictures, 2025).

How good it is to see a quality film aimed at children! After “Zoopocalypse”I was afraid that the new productions aimed at our little ones would be like that, so empty. I understand that a film aimed at children has its own language and teaching style. And “Gabby’s Magical House: The Movie” does this very well. A feature that speaks to children and entertains adults.

We have an example of a film that knows who it is dealing with. He uses the most diverse ways to entertain, transmit messages in a playful way and amuse those who watch. And, in the end, you leave the session humming the songs, with the feeling that you had an “injection of joy” and even feeling lighter.

Breaking the fourth wall

One difference this feature has is that it literally talks to the viewer. Which initially creates some strangeness. But, perhaps, it’s because I didn’t have this form of content in my childhood. I understand that nowadays everything, including the animations, has had to undergo a makeover. Drawings that spoke to me as a child may not catch on with today’s audience. I’ve noticed that several cartoons have characters that break the fourth wall and talk directly to the viewer. And it works, it attracts and keeps the attention of little ones.

That’s why I say: the film knows its audience and will use the most varied ways to keep their attention, delivering a quality product. I really didn’t know what “Gabby’s Magical House” was, because if I had known I would have gone with my kitten ears, held Pandy’s hand and never let go (laughs). The film is an explosion of colors, where the imagination literally comes to life. Now, I ask you: which child, upon arriving at the session, seeing Gabby look directly at them and inviting them to an adventure, will not be happy and ready for an adventure?

The film pays attention to the smallest details in providing a great experience for little ones. Easy-to-understand dialogues, well-constructed characters, striking melodies or music. You can see that the studio did its homework by not producing anything just to make money. It’s interesting to realize that we don’t have a villain in the story… Oops, that might be a spoiler. But it’s something that I thought was a great idea. It breaks away from the movie cliché that is basically the hero versus the villain. It’s all tied together very well.

And I – as a young adult, but with a childish soul still alive – managed to have fun and laugh during the film. Not because it’s a “silly” feature, but because it’s really fun. I can see that the main message was not directed at me, but I also managed to notice some interesting reflections for the “big kids”. After all, who said that being an adult needs to be all in shades of gray? Sometimes, letting your imagination go and seeing things with a little more color makes the world a little better.

If you are close to a child, take them to the cinema. It’s a different experience, where she will really be able to have fun, sing and dance with the characters. And you, whoever is going to follow along, stop being a grumpy adult. Rescue your inner child and have fun together. And if you don’t know how to do it, that’s okay. Let Gabby and her friends teach you: squeeze left, squeeze right, take Pandy’s hand and don’t let go. That’s it: you’re little again and you’re going to have fun with the kids.

Today I end our conversation with a big smile. Happy that quality films are being made for little ones – and not something that seems to have come from artificial intelligence just to make baseless money. A big hug from Thi (wearing my kitten ears). 🐱
