The saga still had some magic left
Almost ten long years later, it hits theaters Now you see me 3the third installment of a saga that started back in 2013. With the firm intention of resurrecting the franchise, the director Ruben Fleischer (Venom) has assumed the commands left by Louis Leterrier (Transporter) y Jobs Men (Wicked) in the previous two.
To do this, he introduces us to a new team of magicians made up of Justice Smith (Jurassic World), Ariana Greenblatt (Barbie) y Dominic Sessa (Those who stay). But, of course, the unique original protagonists could not be missing alongside them. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher y Lizzy Caplan They return to their roles, just like Morgan Freeman. In front of them will be Rosamund Pike as a great villain.
In Now you see me 3the Four Horsemen return ten years after separating to live an extraordinary adventure with a new generation of illusionists. Together they must rob a powerful billionaire who keeps many more secrets than she lets on. Thus, unsuspected surprises and never-before-seen magic tricks will fill the screen in a new installment of the iconic saga.
Now you see me 3
The nostalgic return of the saga now you see me It works correctly mainly because it never pretends to be more than what it is. Although sometimes it is forgotten that this is about magic and not just robberies, in general terms it more than fulfills itself as the third installment of the franchise. It’s entertaining, it doesn’t get boring and its new signings fit very well with the original team. It is not a masterpiece but it can be seen and even brings out some knowing smiles.
A cast full of charisma
So that magic tricks from movies now you see me worked, one of the non-negotiable ingredients was the enormous charisma of its protagonists. The Four Horsemen not only won their followers in history. They fell in love with the real audience in the movie theater. A lot of verbiage, rapid movements of hands and feet while the camera swung from side to side… The characters took cinematic control based on personality.
In Now you see me 3despite all the time that has passed since the first sequel was released in 2016, they have managed to keep that ingredient intact. With a Daniel Atlas (Eisenberg) more bravado and sharper than usual, much of the weight of the film falls on him and the three new signings, who fit perfectly into the team. The dance of names is getting bigger – there are already eight illusionists – but it doesn’t get boring. Although without going into any of them in depth, in that light superficiality they are all decently balanced.

The arrival of the new members also offers a theme that Now you see me 3 explodes recurrently: the new generations against the originals. At times in a humorous tone and at times with tense scenes, the film insists on testing its protagonists to demonstrate, on the one hand, if they are worthy and, on the other, if they have not lost their duende. It is an easy but functional resource. It’s not something original, surprising or particularly well polished. But it serves to keep the characters’ narrative arcs moving.
A funny story
The other ingredient of the saga is to print a very fast and dynamic rhythm to robbery stories that are altered with the occasional unexpected twist. Now you see me 3 It also enchants us with moments that make us frown and wonder what we really just saw. Although it is true that for most of the footage, the film comes even closer to the whole of a Ocean’s Eleven o Mission Impossible. On too many occasions he leaves magic aside to focus on the action thriller, on how to prepare the robbery rather than on the trick itself.

Despite everything, the script does not falter excessively because, from time to time, we are presented with a twist, a snap that restores interest and that, for formal purposes, makes the film change direction. By now we all know that, although a good magician never reveals his tricks, the movies of now you see me Yes they do, and it’s the most fun. Therefore, this third could not be less. Especially at its climax, Now you see me 3 It manages to deceive us and entertain us with a vibrant ending.
Furthermore, it must be recognized that in the moments when the film accelerates with its fast action scenes and magic tricks, it wins some points. They are once again well directed, very entertaining and do justice to those practical “set pieces” such as the true illusionism of cinema. Again, nothing extraordinary, but enough.

In the end, everything in Now you see me 3 It exudes a feeling of a correct film, which although it does not shine excessively, it does deliver at all times. Those who go with the most moderate expectations for this new exercise in overexploiting nostalgia have a better chance of having a good time. It is not going to go down in history as a glorious illusion or heist film. But it is entertaining, has well-crafted moments and ends on a high note. We didn’t ask for more so we settled.
Now you see me 3 opens in theaters on November 14.
