These were the most awarded cars in the world in 2025
On April 16, 2025, during the New York International Automobile Salon, a model will be elected the World Car of the Year (Wcoty) 2025. Ten finalists play the award and a jury composed of 102 international journalists from 30 countries will decide who will occupy the top of the podium.
The World Car of the Year, however, is just one of the many awards in the industry. In Europe, for example, the Renault 5 E-Tech was elected car of the year 2025 in early January, surpassing competitors such as Kia EV3, Citroën C3 and Alfa Romeo Junior. The awards ceremony took place at the Brussels Auto Show (Bel). On the same day, on the other side of the Atlantic, the Honda Civic Hybrid was chosen as a car of the year 2025 in North America.

Europa
The European jury, consisting of 60 industry professionals from 23 countries, granted 353 votes to Renault 5 e-Tech, electing it “car of the year 2025”. He was followed by Kia EV3 with 291 votes and by Citroen C3 with 215 votes. Alfa Romeo Junior was in seventh place with 136 votes.
With this victory, Renault 5 replaced Renault Scenic, which won the award last year. This was the second time in the 62 years of Car of the Year’s history that a brand took the crown two years in a row, which happened in 1995 and 1996 with Fiat Punto and Fiat Bravo.

USA
On January 10, 2025, the winners of the car, pickup and utility of the year (Canada, USA and Mexico) awards were announced at Detroit Auto Show (USA). The jury, made up of 50 independent journalists from the United States and Canada, has evaluated vehicles based on criteria such as innovation, design, performance, driver satisfaction and value. The winners were:
- North American car: Honda Civic Hybrid, which received 205 votes. The jurors praised the efficiency of fuel, the pleasure of driving and the cost-effectiveness.
- North American truck: 183 votes Ford Ranger was praised by its new 2.7 liter V6 engine, driving comfort and towing capacity.
- North American Utility Vehicle: Volkswagen ID. Buzz, who received 187 votes. Won by its retro design and integrated modern technologies.

South America
In South America, or rather, in Brazil, Renault Kardian won the car award of the year 2025, surpassing Byd Dolphin, Citroen Basalt, Hyundai Crete and Peugeot 2008.

Asia
In 2025, in China, the titles “Car of the Year” and “SUV of the Year” were integrated into the new “car of the year” and the “luxury car of the year” category was added. The title of “Car of the Year” went to the M9, while in the luxury category Mercedes E-Class won. Geely Galaxy E5 was elected the “best economic car” and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N stood out for their performance.
The Indian car award of the year 2025, on the other hand, was won by Mahindra Thar Roxx, which surpassed finalists Byd Emax 7, Citroen Basalt, Maruti Suzuki Swift, MG Windsor, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Curvv/Curvv EV and Tata Punch EV.
Africa and Middle East
Regional Car of the Year (Coty) also includes the “Arab Car of the Year” and the “Middle East Car of the Year”, but the names of recent winners are not known.
The South African Car of the Year is always an annual car award of the year organized by South African Guild of Mobiliti JournaLists. The 2024 title was for the BMW 7 Series.
Australia
In Australia, there are two main awards. The first, the Drive Car of the Year, is the youngest, has 18 editions and, in 2024, awarded an electric car for the first time, the Kia Ev9, and has not elected the car of 2025.
There is also the Wheels Car of the Year (commonly abbreviated as Coty), presented by Wheels magazine since 1963. The title of 2024 has been granted to Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
World
While we wait to meet the World Car of the Year 2025 winner, which will be revealed on April 16, 2025, we would like to remember that the world’s world personality title was granted to a woman for the first time: Stella Li, BYD’s executive vice president.
Also speaking of women, Hyundai Santa Fe was crowned women’s car of 2025. The jury, consisting of 82 women from 55 countries, also granted BYD the best tech Award 2025 and Volvo the Sandy Myhre Award 2025 for its commitment to gender equality.
