This is the absolute worst thing about the Alien saga, according to James Cameron
Recently James Cameron spoke very highly of the film Alien: Romulus by Fede Alvarez and the TV series Alien: Planet Earth by Noah Hawley, but in a new promotional interview he also talked about the worst thing the franchise did after the release of his masterpiece Aliens.
It’s about a choice made during the production of Alien 3which according to the director of Titanic and Avatar was the absolute “the stupidest thing to do with this damn saga“. During a discussion with Michael Biehn, interpreter of Corporal Hicks, for his podcast Just Fooling About, the author commented the famous decision to kill Newt at the beginning of Alien 3.
“I thought it was the stupidest thing in the world“said James Cameron, although he also talked about the terrible decision to kill Hicks and Bishop in the same film. Cameron then explained why it was such a terrible decision, especially if he wanted to build a new film on what fans had loved about 1986’s Aliens.”Build a lot of narrative around the characters of Hicks, Newt and Bishop, and then the first thing they do in the next movie is kill them all. Guys, really smart move, you know? Not only that, but then you replace them with a bunch of convicts you hate and would like to see die, right? Really compliments“said James Cameron.
