Christopher Nolan once again challenges the limits of cinema with The Odysseyan ambitious adaptation of Homer’s classic work that promises to become one of the big releases of 2026. The British director, after the success of Oppenheimernow delves into Greek mythology with a production shot entirely in 70 mm IMAX format and a budget that is close to 250 million dollars.
The first trailer, released this Monday, offers an impressive visual preview: devastated landscapes after the Trojan War, the legendary wooden horse, shipwrecks and the shadow of mythical creatures. In the middle of that epic, the voice of Matt Damon who plays Odysseus sets the dramatic tone: “After years of war, no one would come between my men and home. Not even me.”
In addition to Damon, the cast brings together some of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars: Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland in the role of Telemachus, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron, among others. The film explores the journey of the king of Ithaca as he returns home from the war, facing gods, monsters and forces of nature in a journey that, according to Nolan, “seeks to fill gaps in film culture on a scale that has never been seen on screen.”

The Odyssey It is the first film filmed entirely in 70 mm IMAX, with photography by Hoyte van Hoytema and a budget close to $250 million. The director promises an unprecedented visual experience: “We wanted each image to convey the grandeur and danger of the journey.”
Premiere and expectations
The film will hit theaters on July 17, 2026, exclusively in theaters, with special screenings in IMAX. With this adaptation, Nolan not only recovers one of the founding texts of Western literature, but turns it into a cinematographic experience that aspires to redefine the epic genre.
