This science fiction film became a phenomenon and is already TOP 1 on Netflix

Released this Friday, 19th, The Great Flood quickly reached the top of the Brazilian ranking of Netflix and has been drawing public attention for the way it portrays the collapse of humanity.

Set on the last day on Earth, the science fiction film avoids the grandiose spectacle and focuses on an intimate narrative, centered on survival and human decisions under pressure.

Starring Kim Da-mi, known for Itaewon Class, the film follows Goo An-na, a woman who tries to save her son while the planet faces an irreversible catastrophe. After the impact of an asteroid in Antarctica, torrential rain causes the oceans to advance over cities, putting the lives of billions of people at risk.

Instead of following the global chaos, the narrative focuses almost entirely on the building where An-na lives, which is slowly being swallowed by water. Apartments become vertical traps, and each submerged floor requires increasingly difficult choices.

The flood, from the beginning, is presented less as physical destruction and more as a logical consequence of a sequence of human decisions.

During the escape attempt, An-na encounters Ja-In, played by Kwon Eun-sung, and, later, Hee-jo, played by Park Hae-jo, an agent in charge of taking survivors to the building’s terrace, where a helicopter will carry out the rescue. Crossing the flooded floors also reveals brief encounters with other people who have already accepted the imminent end.

By avoiding easy explanations and exaggerated scenes of destruction, The Great Flood builds its strength by portraying ordinary characters dealing with fear, guilt, hope and sacrifice.

The threat is not just in the water that rises, but in the choices made when time runs out, an element that helps explain why the film has become a global phenomenon and is already leading the TOP 1 on Netflix.
