This thriller full of unexpected twists is one of the biggest film hits of the last decade: the third part will be released in 3 days – Movie news
9 years after its last sequel ‘Now You See Me 3’ is about to hit theaters. Remember: “Be careful when you get so close because the closer you are, the less you will see.”
It has now been 12 years since Louis Leterrier, the brain behind the successful action saga Transporterhypnotized us with the film that would end up giving rise to his new franchise. Now you see me…a thriller that completely introduced us to the world of illusionism to introduce us to a charismatic group of magicians, the Four Horsemen, who brought the authorities down the path of bitterness by robbing banks during their shows and then distributing their money among the public.
Led by an equally charismatic cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco and Woody Harrelson, the film was a true success at the box office, grossing more than $350 million worldwide. It didn’t matter that it was based on impossible magic tricks and no intention of being credible: Now you see me… it was pure spectacle and people enjoyed it as such.
“There is little difference between attending a good magic show and watching a film like Louis Leterrier’s,” Alejandro G. Calvo reflected on it in his review for SensaCine, “You know you have been manipulated, deceived, even terribly scammed, and yet you enjoy it with a smile of satisfaction on your face and with your eyes enthralled by the artificiality of fiction.”
“It doesn’t break molds, it doesn’t have speeches, nor is it anything new. And yet, how enjoyable it is. Sometimes you just need to be fooled enough to forget the rest of the problems. And for that, I pay a good price for a ticket,” said the critic.
In the film, the charismatic magician Atlas (Eisenberg) and his company dazzle the Las Vegas public by robbing a bank belonging to a shady tycoon (Michael Caine) on the other side of the world and distributing the stolen money among the spectators, all under the watchful eyes of the astonished audience. But this also draws the attention of the FBI. Agent Dylan (Mark Ruffalo) and French Interpol agent Alma (Mélanie Laurent) are assigned to the case, but they distrust each other. The further the investigation progresses, the murkier everything becomes. It seems likely that Atlas’ company has an insider. But in the world of magic, nothing is as it seems and no one can be trusted.
After the box office success of the film, Lionsgate was quick to confirm the sequel to Now you see me…which was first going to have Leterrier at the helm again but was finally directed by Jon M. Chu. Nor would Isla Fisher return, who was pregnant at the time of filming and was replaced by Lizzy Caplan, while Eisenberg, Ruffalo, Harrelson, Franco, and Morgan Freeman did return to play their characters.
now you see me 2 It was released in 2016 and was once again a box office success, grossing more than $334 million, although the critical reception was worse.
