According to Deadlinea Walt Disney Studios will suffer a huge loss after Tron: Ares fails at the box office. The film’s true budget was revealed by the website, and it was higher than the numbers originally shared.
Sources consulted by the website point out that, without the promotional campaign, there was an investment of US$220 million in production, instead of US$170 million.
Considering all ancillary revenues, it should record a loss of around US$132 millionassuming it reaches the estimated US$160 million in worldwide revenue.
So far, it has accumulated US$103 millionwith a 70% drop in the second weekend.
“There wasn’t a clear vision, to be honest. The idea that Disney would spend nearly a quarter of a billion dollars on a Jared Leto film, within a franchise that hasn’t worked in four decades, is absurd,” commented a casting rep.
Apparently, Joachim Rønning I wanted a different script than the one written by Jesse Wigutow and approved by the studio.
The director defended the version of Jez Butterworth (Ford vs Ferrari), which ended up vetoed.
The situation worsened to the point where Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) being called in late in production to rewrite parts of the film, culminating in about a month of reshoots.
