‘Tron: Ares’ will result in a loss of more than US$132 MILLION for Disney, website reveals

Even though it has surpassed US$100 million at the global box office, ‘Tron: Ares’ has already become one of the biggest financial failures of the year – and a recent report reveals the huge damage it will cause to the Walt Disney Studios.

According to the Deadlinethe film’s budget was staggering US$220 million (a much larger amount than previously announced, US$180 million). Projections indicate that the film will end its journey in theaters with weak US$160 million – and will cause a shock US$132.7 million to the Mouse House.

“With a box office of US$160 million, ‘Tron: Ares’ generates $72.2 million in worldwide theatrical rentals, $37.6 million in global home entertainment, close to $100 million in global domestic television, with an extra $5 million from airlines, totaling $214.8 million in revenue.”says the website. “Compare that to the net production cost of $220 million, including tax credits from Vancouver, Canada, a global spend of $102.5 million on stunts at San Diego Comic-Con, traveling light mopeds, a Nine Inch Nails laser show at the Los Angeles premiere, which closed Hollywood Blvd. US$10.8 million in other film costs and US$14.2 million in residual costs, which brings us to a total cost of US$347.5 million. This leaves us with a loss of US$132.7 million.”

With just 56% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoesthe film received a B+ rating from the public on CinemaScore.
