“Under the guise of an ecological epic, James Cameron only films war”

James Has Cameron lost his magic? And retained the worst ofAvatar 2: The Way of Water to achieve its Avatar 3 ? Already, in 2022, Marie Sauvion railed against the first hour of “this big war film, a bit boring and not exciting”. Before, however, marveling at this underwater exploration – when the Sully family leaves the forest to reach the ocean – and crowning James Cameron by declaring it “champion of innovative entertainment”.
Three years later, unfortunately, Avatar 3: Fire and Ash disappoints and annoys. “This new part is only repeated and rehash”, warns Marie Sauvion straight away. “There’s not much in the script. We are on the same issues as in issue 2. And it ends the same way with a naval battle,” completes Samuel Douhaire.

But what, ultimately, is James Cameron saying? And what did the director ofAbyss like to film? “Well, he only likes to film war, that’s all he talks about!” There are five of them writing a screenplay that always tells the same things and always repeats the same values: honor, the marines, the dad… Marie Sauvion gets irritated. “There is a very warlike, very virilist vision. The family is also very traditional, adds Samuel Douhaire. We are on another planet, we have the right to expect one of the most innovative ideas! » Which would justify the colossal budget of the film (around $400 million) and rise to the height of the ambition carried by James Cameron: to invent new ways of making cinema. For now, it’s a failure.
