US box office: Regretting You dominates attendance in search of renewal
Paramount’s romantic drama finishes at the top of a ranking in which the best new release ranks… ninth.
With 8.1 million dollars (M$), Regretting You becomes the attendance leader with the lowest box office since… early 2024, and the $6.2 million garnered by For Argy. Josh Boone’s romance fell by 41% for a cumulative total of $27.5 million in North America, and should undoubtedly soon reach $36.5 million in Materialists. Internationally, it made $8.2 million in 56 countries, including a debut on the podium in France, and totaled $50.8 million.
Just behind and pushed by Halloween, Black Phone 2 declined moderately ($8 million, -38%), for a worldwide total of $104.7 million. Universal also places another title in the top 10, namely Back to the futureon the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Robert Zemeckis’ classic. $4.7 million was earned by the return of Marty McFly’s adventures to the big screen, bringing its domestic total (not adjusted for inflation) to $221.74 million.
Netflix was also back in cinemas with KPop Demon Hunters. After dominating attendance at the end of August, the most viewed film in the history of the platform recorded an additional $5.3 million from 2,890 copies, and thus totaled $24.3 million.
In total, the weekend box office totaled $55 million, the second lowest total in 2025. This is also a decline of 23.2% compared to the equivalent period of 2024.
