The film in theaters: L’Agent secret by Kleber Mendonça Filho

The first collaboration between Kleber Mendonça Filho and Wagner Moura, friends for 20 years, resulted in a summit rewarded with two prizes at the last Cannes Film Festival. Political and poetic thriller, with sublime photography and an intoxicating soundtrack, L’Agent secret takes us for almost 2 hours and 40 minutes in the middle of a dictatorship in Brazil in the 1970s, following in the footsteps of a man hunted by the regime and who seeks to find his son. A real gem with a deliciously tortuous storyline, which rewards the attentive viewer in its masterful denouement, embellished with a declaration of love for cinema. What more could you ask for? Quite simply one of the best films of the year.

What’s new at the cinema this week

The series: Falloutsaison 2

Prime Video’s biggest hit is back and confirmed. Larger, more explosive, season 2 continues Lucy’s odyssey, now confronted with the truth about her father and the brutality of the outside world. Direction “New Vegas”, alongside an ever more cynical Ghoul, for a buddy movie as improbable as it is effective. Visually spectacular, violently absurd and morally troubled, the series broadens its stakes, densifies its characters and assumes its excess. Total entertainment.

The movie and streaming: Leave one day by Amélie Bonnin

Part of the Première editorial staff had an anxiety attack upon discovering Leave one daythe opening film of the last Cannes Film Festival. The majority let themselves be carried away by Amélie Bonnin’s feel good karaoke. A We know the song 2.0 about a star cook who returns to her childhood village to run her parents’ roadside restaurant, after her father’s heart attack. The script and the words are clever, and Juliette Armanet reveals her acting talents by making us cry to the tune of 2Be3. Which is no small feat.

The film on VOD: Sentimental value the Joachim Trier

Four years agonear Julie (in 12 chapters)Joachim Trier came back strong with Sentimental value, Grand Prix at the last Cannes Film Festival where two sisters see their father, a renowned director, re-enter their lives after the death of their mother after years of absence. A rich, profound film dealing both with family ties and behind the scenes of cinema to give rise to a fascinating reflection on art which can destroy as much as help to rebuild. All carried by a quartet of irresistible actors: Stellan Skarsgard, Renate Reinsve, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter who should all or almost all find themselves nominated for the Oscars.

The classic: Misery by Rob Reiner

Well before the death of director Rob Reiner in tragic circumstances last weekend, Arte had long planned the broadcast of Miseryone of its peaks. Rewatching this Stephen King adaptation allows us to see two things: Kathy Bates – exceptional as the helmet cracker who kidnaps her favorite author – did not steal her Oscar, and the film is much funnier than we remember (even if, let’s admit, we don’t laugh much during the foot-breaking scene). Reiner seizes the dark humor of the novel and puts his remarkable talent as a storyteller at the service of a constantly thrilling behind closed doors. RIP Rob.

The video game: Terminator 2D No Fate

Nostalgic for pre-James CameronAvatar and pixel art, this game is made for you. Adaptation of Terminator 2 as if it had been released on an arcade machine in 1991, this title by Bitmap Bureau is an ultra-paced 2D shooter that is perfectly faithful to the film. High-end fan service, designed by craftsmen, where we alternately play Sarah Connor, her son John (in the future and quickly in the present) as well as the T-800. Too short – count a good hour from start to finish, it’s unreasonably little – but infinitely replayable for fans of high scores and parallel branches. We leave you, we go back to try to change the future.

Available on almost all possible media. 29.99 euros in dematerialized version.
