Where ‘Savage Lands’ Fits Into The ‘Predator’ Saga Chronology

In 1987, Austrian action star Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in an exemplary action title that pitted the best of American soldiers against an infallible alien threat: a Yautja, an extraterrestrial species capable of camouflaging itself at any time and destroying its prey in different ways. The electrifying clash was a box office success, grossed almost five times its own budget and created a franchise that is still standing. This Thursday, November 7th, it hits cinemas The Predator: Wildlandsthe ninth feature film in the franchise. It may seem difficult to get on board now, but the chronology of the saga is actually quite uncomplicated. Understand where each film fits chronologically:

1. The Predator: The Hunt (2022)

The first film in the saga directed by Dan Trachtenberg broke new ground by taking a Yautja to 18th century North America, where the indigenous Comanche Naru (Amber Midthunder) tries to prove herself as a warrior. As it happens, the prey she must defeat is one of the most invincible aliens in the universe.

2. Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)

Trachtenberg then directed this animation for Disney+ that brings together three brief stories set in the years 841, 1609 and 1941. In each of them, different specimens of Yautja face great warriors of humanity.

3. The Predator (1987)

The film that started it all actually takes place in 1987 and deals with the foreign policies of the United States towards Central America. Schwarzenegger plays the mercenary Dutch and is recruited by a CIA agent for a delicate operation in the fictional country of Val Verde. The film requires little knowledge from the viewer about the species of the lethal alien.

4. Predator 2: The Hunt Continues (1990)

Set ten years after the original film, The Hunt Continues is an urban adventure in a chaotic version of Los Angeles, where a heat wave and rampant crime combine with the chaos caused by yet another Yautja. The plot has a direct connection with the previous one and is referenced in The Hunt.

5. Alien vs. Alien Predator (2004)

Almost 15 years after nods from The Hunt Continues xenomorph ao Alien (1979), the official crossover finally happened. A critical failure, the film takes place in 2004 and tries to tie together several ends of both franchises. It is difficult to assimilate for those who are not already fans of both characters, but it offers multiple explosive battles.

6. Alien vs. Predator 2 (2007)

The second and final collaboration between the two characters continues the plot with little respite, returning to the events of 2004. The two titles are, therefore, inseparable. With regard to the Yautja, the plot reveals one of the planets commanded by the species and details their society.

7. Predators (2010)

Starring Alice Braga and Adrien Brody, this film suggests that the Yautja are divided into rival species. Unlike the others, the film also does not specify the year of the events, but it is possible to infer that it takes place around when it was released.

8. The Predator (2018)

Second failed attempt to reignite the franchise, The Predator weaves connections to The Hunt Continues e Alien vs. Predator. The action takes place in 2018 and follows the boy Rory (Jacob Tremblay), who accidentally summons multiple Yautja to Earth.

9. The Predator: Savage Lands (2025)

In order to avoid any unnecessary complications, just as was done in The HuntTrachtenberg decided to set his story in the distant future. On a voracious planet full of aggressive species, a displaced Yautja finds a defective android and uses her in his attempt to defeat an immortal beast and prove himself as a predator. The android in question, played by Elle Fanning, is a product of the company Weyland-Yutani, a megacorporation that is in all the films of Alien.
