The film “Dark Horse” (“The Dark Horse”, in free translation), which revisits the 2018 presidential campaign and has as its central axis the stabbing suffered by Jair Bolsonaro in Juiz de Fora (MG), begins to take shape, and the name chosen to play the former president draws attention inside and outside Brazil.

The production will be directed by North American Cyrus Nowrasteh, with a script written by federal deputy Mario Frias (PL-SP). According to information published by Estadão, the film should present Bolsonaro as an “unlikely winner”, highlighting his military history, his political trajectory and actions linked to the fight against drug trafficking. The script also suggests the existence of other alleged assassination attempts, attributed to the same people responsible for the 2018 attack. The person responsible for the stabbing, Adélio Bispo, will appear in the film under a fictitious name.

The American actor cast to play Jair Bolsonaro is Jim Caviezel, known for starring in Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” (2004). The artist’s name had already been circulating for months on conservative profiles on social media, which pointed to him as the “ideal” interpreter to bring the former president to life.

Caviezel is a figure also known for controversial comments. The actor has already made anti-vaccine statements and even said that they would be part of a depopulation plan. He also expressed support for conspiracy theories about a supposed “global elite”, positions that align him with right-wing groups in the United States. This ideological proximity helped fuel the online campaign that asked for his name in the cast.

Bolsonaro’s children

The confirmed cast includes Brazilian and foreign actors playing Bolsonaro’s children:

  • Marcus Ornellas, a Brazilian naturalized Mexican and known for soap operas in Mexico, will play Flávio Bolsonaro.
  • Sérgio Barreto, Brazilian actor, will play Carlos Bolsonaro.
  • North American Eddie Finlay will play Eduardo Bolsonaro.

The actresses who will play Michelle and Laura Bolsonaro have not yet been announced.
