Who will play Bolsonaro in a film in the United States

American actor Jim Caviezel, known for playing Jesus in the film “The Passion of the Christ”, will play former president Jair Bolsonaro in a new film production. The film, titled “Dark Horse”, will focus on the 2018 presidential campaign and is scheduled for release in 2026.

In recent years, Caviezel has stood out for roles aligned with the conservative agenda, such as in the film “Som da Liberdade” (2023). He is also known for publicly espousing conspiracy theories and releasing controversial information on public health topics, such as the Covid-19 vaccine.

The script is written by federal deputy Mario Frias (PL-SP), a political ally of Bolsonaro who had a career as an actor before entering politics. According to information released about the project in “Estadão”, the objective is to build a “hero’s journey” narrative for the former president, portraying his trajectory during the election.

The cast that will play the Bolsonaro family also has names defined. Mexican actor Marcus Ornellas will play Flávio Bolsonaro, and Brazilian Sérgio Barreto will play Carlos Bolsonaro. North American Eddie Finlay was cast in the role of Eduardo Bolsonaro. The actresses who will play former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro and her daughter Laura have not yet been announced.
