Wicked: Part 2 approaches $400 million at global box office
Estimated reading time: 3 minutes
The phenomenon of Oz continues to show his strength on the big screen. Wicked: Part 2 (officially titled Wicked: For Good in the original) reached an impressive new milestone in its commercial run. Production officially exceeded US$390 million at the global box office, quickly consolidating itself as one of the biggest hits of the year.
With this robust performance, the film is now taking great strides to cross the barrier of US$400 million in the coming days, reaffirming the public’s massive interest in the conclusion of the Elphaba and Glinda saga.
Profit in sight for Universal
In addition to the gross collection numbers, the film’s financial performance stands out when compared to its production cost. The budget of Wicked: Parte 2 was reported in US$165 million (not counting marketing costs).
Considering the general rule that a film needs to gross about 2.5 times its budget to start turning a profit, the musical is already comfortably in the profitability zone for the Universal Pictures. The success of the sequel follows in the footsteps of the first film, proving that the strategy of dividing the adaptation of the Broadway musical into two parts was a wise bet by the studio and director Jobs Men.
The film continues to be shown, attracting crowds and maintaining excellent support, which indicates that the final numbers should rise considerably before the end of its run in theaters.
Wicked: Parte 2 arrived in Brazilian cinemas in November 20, 2025 and continues to be shown across the country.
