‘Wicked: Part 2’: Film’s ending creates script error with ‘The Wizard of Oz’
(WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ‘WICKED: PART 2’)
O musical ‘Wicked: Parte 2’ continues to be shown in Brazilian cinemas and, in its final moments, presents a plot hole related to the direct connection with ‘The Magic of Oz’.
In this sequence, the connection with the classic L. Frank Baum is more explicit, showing events from Elphaba and Glinda’s perspective. However, according to ComicBook, a major inconsistency arises precisely regarding Dorothy’s return to Kansas.
In the film ‘The Magic of Oz’Glinda guides Dorothy in a simple and magical way: click the heels of her shoes three times while repeating “There’s no place like home.”
However, in the universe established by ‘Wicked’an essential contradiction arises, Glinda does not have magical powers for much of the story and only awakens her abilities in the final moments of the film, which makes it impossible for her to know how to send Dorothy away.
Despite this continuity error, which few fans noticed, the general public loved the sequel and the derivative as a whole, many even completely ignoring the original plot of ‘The Magic of Oz’ when evaluating the film.
‘Wicked: Part 2’ is showing in cinemas nationwide.
