Will K-Pop Warriors get a live-action film? Creator responds
The phenomenon K-Pop warriorsthe biggest animated hit in Netflix history, is unlikely to get a live-action version. The confirmation came from the film’s creator and co-director, Maggie Kang, in a recent interview with the BBC.
According to the director, the visual style and tone of the story were designed exclusively for the animated format:
“There are so many elements of humor and pacing that only work in animation,” Kang explained. “It’s very difficult to imagine these characters in a real world. It would be too down to earth, and it just wouldn’t work.”
Chris Appelhans, Kang’s co-director, agrees that the strength of K-Pop warriors It’s in his lively language:
“Animation allows you to create compositions that are impossible in the real world. Rumi can be funny, sing, fight and fall from the sky in seconds. This freedom is what makes the genre magical,” he told the BBC.
While ruling out any attempt at a live-action adaptation, Maggie Kang confirmed her desire to continue the universe in an animated format. In an interview with Varietyshe revealed that she is already thinking about a sequel that should expand the stories of the other members of the group, Zoey and Mira.
“We left a lot of open questions and clues that there’s more to come. This was Rumi’s story, but Zoey and Mira also have fascinating pasts that we still want to tell,” he said.

Launched in June 2025, K-Pop warriors it quickly became a global phenomenon, breaking audience records and becoming the most watched film in the platform’s history. The soundtrack was also successful: the album reached the top of the Billboard and made history as the first with four simultaneous tracks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The single “Golden” has been in the lead for eight weeks.
The film follows the K-pop girl group Huntr/x, formed by three young people who, in addition to being music stars, are secret demon hunters. The protagonists face a rival boy band, the Saja Boys, who also hide demonic identities.
According to the magazine, Netflix and Sony are in negotiations to produce the second animated film, with no release date yet.
K-Pop warriors remains available on Netflix, consolidating itself as one of the biggest recent cultural phenomena in animation.
