“You are idiots, there was no one desperate”: Lakers coach talks about LeBron’s announcement
LeBron James was the talk of the world in the NBA this Tuesday (7). After the 41-year-old star said he would make a major announcement, there were expectations that he would announce his retirement after the season. However, the action was just part of an advertising campaign for a cognac.
All the commotion caused the Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Reddick joked with reporters present at team training.
— You are idiots, no one was desperate. We all knew it would be an advertisement, right? Most of the people who sent me messages already knew it would be a commercial — said Reddick.
Although the coach was confident that LeBron would not retire, some players on the squad weren’t so sure. Rui Hachimura revealed that he sent messages to his partner asking about the ad, but only received an emoji in response. Point guard Austin Reaves was more concerned:
— I received some calls from people thinking he (LeBron) was going to retire. I’m glad it wasn’t like that,” he said.
At 40 years old, LeBron James will begin his 23rd season in the NBA, a number never reached by another player in the history of the league. The star still has a year left on his contract with the Lakers.
