In just 5 days, “Zootopia 2” surpassed its predecessor’s box office total of US$218 million, “Zootopia”. It also claimed the title of best-selling foreign comedy in mainland China and set a new record for pre-sales of animated films, surpassing the local box office success “Ne Zha 2”.
Although the film grossed $156 million in North America, its performance in mainland China was dominant. Globally, the film grossed $810 million. Chen Jin, an analyst at Beacon, said the projection is that “Zootopia 2” reach a total collection of US$381 million. The expectation is that the annual box office will exceed US$7 billion, driven by releases scheduled for December, such as “Avatar: Fire and Ash”.
