Zootopia 2 has a smashing debut and already surpasses Elio’s box office total

The value already places the animation among the 10 highest grossing films of 2025. To get an idea of ​​its success, in just five days, the sequence has already surpassed the total box office of ElioPixar’s most recent animation, which grossed just US$72.9 million during its entire time in theaters in the United States.

The debut of Zootopia 2 during the Thanksgiving holiday in the US grossed US$156 million domestically, becoming the second biggest opening for the period, behind only Moana 2 (2024). In Brazil, the film also topped the box office, repeating the success of the first feature.

Can Zootopia 2 reach $1 billion?

With a production budget of US$150 million, the film is already a commercial success. The big question now is whether the animation will have the strength to reach the US$1 billion mark.

Two factors indicate yes. The first is the extremely positive reception. Zootopia 2 achieved Disney Animation’s highest score on Rotten Tomatoes in four years, with critics praising the way the film mixes humor with relevant social commentary.

The second factor is the lack of competition. There are no other major family animations scheduled for the next few weeks, which should guarantee a good performance for the film until the release of Avatar: Fire and Ashat the end of the year.
