Zootopia 2 has the best opening in animation history

After becoming the first film in Hollywood history to reach US$100 million at the box office in China in just one day, Zootopia 2 continues to break records and strengthen its position as, perhaps, the biggest success of the year.

The film reached US$156 million at the domestic box office and US$400 million internationally, for a total opening of US$556 million. It is the biggest opening in history for an animated film and the fourth biggest of all time for any type of film.

The result comes, in large part, from its success in China, where it reached an opening of US$272 million, the biggest in the country’s history for an animation. The launch is the second biggest of all time in China, second only to Avengers: Endgame which, at the time, opened with more than US$300 million.

At the moment, Zootopia 2 is on display in Brazil.

Zootopia shows a city of anthropomorphic animals that live and share the same space following specific rules for each species, size or behavior. Just like every big metropolis, of course it also has its problems and that’s where a rookie police officer and a cynical fox and swindler need to work together to uncover a conspiracy.

In the story, detectives Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) e Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) find themselves on the winding trail of a mysterious reptile that arrives in Zootopia and turns the metropolis of mammals upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.

The voice cast of Zootopia also has J.K. Simmons, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, Octavia Spencer, Alan Tudyk e Shakira.

Launched in 2016, the first Zootopia it raised more than US$1 billion worldwide, breaking records in China. The film is available on Disney+.
