Regarding The Phoenician Plot, Wes Anderson he said during the press conference in Cannes that it was precisely in a similar context that the proposal emerged: “I spoke about this film to Benicio Del Toro four years ago, here in Cannes, when we came to present The French Dispatch. I told him that a proposal would come to him and that I hoped he would like it. What I had in my head was his image in the frame. I don’t know what would happen to him, but I thought that this character would move relentlessly throughout the story and that it would be impossible to kill him. That’s all I had at the time”.
