To see first: Check out the films nominated for the 2026 Oscars showing at the 2025 São Paulo Exhibition

Starting on October 16th, the 49th São Paulo International Film Festival arrives in theaters in the capital of São Paulo with several titles tipped to compete at the Oscars in 2026, including 15 features already pre-selected by their respective countries to be among the competitors for Best International Film. Among this year’s main highlights is The Secret Agentof Kleber Mendonça FilhoBrazilian representative at Hollywood’s biggest awards show.

Besides him, the Spanish Sirâtof Oliver Laxeis also highlighted in the Exhibition’s program, having been chosen for the opening session of the event. Other titles like Eagles of the Republicfrom Sweden, It Was Just an Accidentfrom France, and No Other Choicefrom South Korea, will also have sessions at the festival.

Titles referring to the Palestinian cause, such as Once Upon a Time in Gazaawarded at the Cannes Festival, and Palestine 36Palestine’s representative at the Oscars, are also part of the program.

Other Oscar contenders

In addition to the representatives for the Best International Film category, other productions listed for the main Oscar categories will also be shown at the Show. Among them is Bugoniaa feature that marks the new chapter of the award-winning partnership between the director Yorgos Lanthimos and the actress Emma Stone.

Produced by Netflix and tipped to compete in the main award categories, Frankensteinof Guillermo del Torowill also be shown on the Mostra circuit before arriving for streaming on November 7th.

Another Netflix production present at the Show, Jay Kellyfilms by Noah Baumbachhas also been placed in the Oscar race. The film, which follows an actor on a journey of rediscovery, stars George Clooneyseen as one of the main bets to be among the nominees for Best Actor for his work as the titular character. Screened at the Venice Festival and chosen as the closing film of the Show, the production has not yet had a date and time for its screening announced.
