Valter Hugo Mãe takes class at the São Paulo Film Festival – 10/15/2025 – Cinema

For the fifth consecutive year, the Exhibition organizes an Audiovisual Ideas Meeting. In general, it can be seen superficially as programming aimed only at the market. But the event is more than that: it brings reflections on all stages of cinema.

And there’s more. It’s also the chance to meet personalities like the Portuguese writer Valter Hugo Mãe (author of this edition’s poster), who gives a masterclass on the 25th. Before him, the cult screenwriter Charlie Kaufman also offers another class, on the 22nd.

Wednesday (22/10)

Opening of the 5th Meeting
After the opening, with the director of the Exhibition, Renata de Almeida, the Screen Brasil Project will be presented, an initiative by Embratur and Projeto Paradiso to increase the presence of Brazilian cinema abroad.

Masterclass com Charlie Kaufman
The screenwriter gained cult status for films such as “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (2004), which won him an Oscar. To participate, you must purchase a ticket for the animation “Anomalisa”, directed by Kaufman, which takes place immediately afterwards.

Consolidated 15 years ago, the Petrobras Showcase Session has become a window into authorial cinema. The table recalls the trajectory of Vitrine Filmes and the project, which is important in shaping the public.

Masterclass with Valter Hugo Mãe
Author of the Mostra’s poster, the Portuguese writer talks with director Miguel Gonçalves Mendes about the documentary “De Lugar Não” (page C22), which presents the author’s journey. Cartoonist Laerte and presenter Roberta Martinelli also participate in the masterclass, which closes the program of the 5th Meeting.

Netflix Presents: ‘The Son of a Thousand Men’ – From Book to Screen
With a hook in the release “O Filho de Mil Homens”, by Daniel Rezende, based on the work of Valter Hugo Mãe, the panel addresses the difficulties of literary adaptations for cinema.
